Corrective Osteotomy
In younger people with early signs of osteoarthritis, it is possible to slow down degenerative changes in the joint, by correcting the disarranged axis of the bowed or knocked knees. Such surgeries are called corrective osteotomies. In bow-legged deformity, tibial osteotomy is performed, and in the knock- knees, an osteotomy of the femur being fixed with a plate and screws.
Rehabilitation
The patient stays in hospital for 2-3 days. The patient immediately starts with limbering up the knee and walks with two crutches, that is, in relaxation until the first check-up after 6 weeks. Then there is an X-ray imaging and after that, the patient usually walks with only one crutch and starts to gradually put pressure on the operated leg. Further checkups are 3 and 6 months after the surgery.
