Reconstruction of the rotator cuff

The rotator cuff includes 4 muscles that are located around the shoulder (supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis and teres minor). They are very significant for the functioning of the shoulder. They actively stabilize the shoulder centring the head of the upper arm bone to the socket of the shoulder blade. They are very important in shoulder movement.

Damage to the muscles of the rotator cuff can occur as a result of trauma (most common in younger people) as well as a degenerative process (in the elderly). The clinical picture is dominated by pain and inability to perform certain shoulder movements to their full extent. If the elderly have a minor injury, which has not caused greater function loss, rehabilitation and conservative treatment are recommended.

If necessary, surgical treatment is performed arthroscopically or by using mini-open technique. The classical open technique is not used because of functional and aesthetically inferior results.
