Cubital tunnel syndrome

Cubital tunnel syndrome

Pressure on the ulnar nerve in the elbow area is called cubital tunnel syndrome. The ulnar nerve passes behind and under the bone knob on the inner side of the elbow (medial epicondyle). It is located very close to the bone and at this point the nerve is most commonly prone to get compressed. Symptoms are pain and numbness in the IV and V finger of the wrist (little and ring finger). Sometimes there is a weakness in the hand grips causing things being easily dropped when held. The symptoms are more pronounced when the elbow is bent than when it is stretched. Treatment can be either conservative (physical therapy, non-steroid antirheumatic drugs, blockades, orthoses) or surgical.
